As we revealed in a recent Insightus investigative report, North Carolina’s GOP is busily exploring every possible means to discourage the ‘wrong sort’ of voters from showing up at the polls this year. And now a recent email reveals that state Republicans are even planning on greeting voters with a little good old-fashioned ‘southern hospitality’ (AKA vigilante justice) at the polls.
Wake County (home to the state capital, Raleigh) is one of the state’s largest (population 1 million). It’s highly diverse, with a large African American community (home to over 9% of the state’s black voters). Wake typically goes Democratic in presidential election years.
In a recently revealed email, Wake County GOP’s 1st Vice Chair, Charles Hellwig, has called on an army a mob of Republicans to “work inside the polls, watching for fraud and vigilantly protecting the act of voting:”

North Carolina is going to be a Florida-sized mess on election day if the GOP and trumpistas have their way. Keep your eyes open when you go to the polls to vote, and if you witness any shenanigans:
A national network of voting rights groups operates an Election Protection hotline on Election Day during major election years. They have attorneys who can respond quickly to voter complaints and to activities that suppress voting, such as a police road block near a polling place. If you have a problem voting on Election Day, call the national Election Protection hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683) or call the NC Hotline 888-OUR-VOTE.
